Van Amersfoort Racing returns to the Macau Grand Prix for the FIA FR World Cup this November
Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) is proud to confirm its participation in the 2025 Macau Grand Prix, set to take place from November 13-16 at the legendary Guia Circuit. The team will race in Formula Regional cars, marking VAR’s debut in Macau under the Formula Regional World Cup banner during the team’s 50th anniversary season.
The streets of Macau are far from unfamiliar territory for VAR. The team first entered the Macau Grand Prix in 1998, entering with Bas Leinders and Christijan Albers in Formula 3. Bas immediately made an impression, setting the fastest lap in Leg 2 of the race.
After that debut, we were away from Macau for a while, before returning in 2012. The following years brought some big names in our cars: Max Verstappen in 2014, and Charles Leclerc in 2015, finishing 2nd in the iconic Macau Grand Prix. Until 2018, we stayed on the grid at Macau, claiming another podium in the 2017 Grand Prix. After the Covid break, we returned one more time in 2023, participating in the FIA F3 World Cup. Looking back, it’s safe to say VAR and Macau have built quite a colourful history together.
It’s also the same track where F1 legends and drivers like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris and George Russell raced on their way to Formula 1. Some of them more successful than others, but all leaving their mark on the Chinese track.
From 2024 onwards, the event switched from Formula 3 to Formula Regional for logistical reasons. VAR didn’t join the inaugural edition, but 2025 is the perfect moment for our comeback to the track: celebrating our 50th anniversary while currently sitting 3rd in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) teams’ standings with two wins and another four podiums to our name.
Daniëlle Geel - Team Manager FRECA & FIA FR World Cup Macau:
“We are honoured to have been invited by Macau for such a unique race and will be competing for the best results in what has been a remarkable year for Van Amersfoort Racing. It will be a memorable yet challenging weekend for the team, but with our past experience of participating in the Macau Grand Prix across various racing series, we can't wait to take on the Guia Circuit with our Formula Regional cars this year!”
In the coming weeks, we’ll reveal more: our special VAR50 Macau livery, driver announcements, and more moments as we return to the streets of Macau. We’ll invite our fans and partners to follow our journey through our website and social media channels as we bring you along on our first FIA Formula Regional World Cup adventure in Macau.
